Kopitiam Oey - Sabang

After the Mie Aboen foodscapades, I decided to take Tya to one of my favorite cafe : Kopitiam Oey.




If you've heard about it, this is Pak Bondan's cafe, or should I say, kopitiam ? Oey, was supposed to be pronounced "Wi", from his surename Winarno. No relations with any Oey clans.




This wasn't my first time, but i am soooo happy with this kopitiam that i started to invite everyone to go there....




WHERE ? 


It's located in Sabang. Where to be exact, hmmm... if you noticed Duta Suara sabang, then you should slow down your car. It was only 100m away from there, located on the left side. It is very easy to be missed since it's quite small. But if you have reached the  red-light, then you have missed it.

THE GOODIES ?

Their main menu are actually coffee and teas. Some panini, nasi goreng (fried rice) and satay. Basically - snacks. But don't judge food by its category - it's still  fulfilling lho.

Since we're still full after Mie Aboen, we decided to just order drinks. Tya ordered Mint Tea, and Ice Kietna drink for me. Kietna is actually a "marmalade" syrup. Similar to marmalade jam, it has the orange skin in it. Taste similar to marmalade - sour, bitter, tangy. I was curious on how it will be served, because usually, kietna was just served with hot water or with ice.


Turns out, it is served with Sprite !

The iced kietna was more an enjoyable – refreshing drink; unlike the usual kietna served in Medanese restaurant. Good idea !

The mint tea itself, we know that it’s fresh – good… but on second thought, it tasted like drinking regular tea after using extra strong Listerine. Anyway, it’s good lah.

Other menus that I have tried is Teh talua bukit tinggi, Kopi Vietnam (Vietnamese coffee) à alert, ultra high caffeine !, French toast, Nasi goreng babat and Wiener Melange.

One thing about wiener mélange, it is actually a shot of espresso, topped with vanilla ice-cream. Nice, but a tips on enjoying it, let it melt for a while, enjoy the ice and espresso at the same time, or else, you’ll ended up having a bitter espresso :P

Teh talua – hot tea with egg yolk, was actually a nice one; no fishy smell of the egg. It’s just am a bit disappointed that it wasn’t as foamy as I expected.

DAMAGE COST

It's definitely affordable.. for the drinks and snacks. Ga terlalu berlebihan - not overusing expensive product, i believe that they are using the common ingredients, that's why the price are reasonable.

OTHER THINGS ?

- Best visited not around lunch time ! It will be packed. 3-5 pm is the best time.
- Free wi-fi provided
- You will see more of the oldies (age 25+) rather than teens hanging around here (i think it's due to the area and type of food)
